Dispatch of a British Navy ship for a humanitarian mission in the Cyprus-Gaza corridor

The British government announced in a statement that it will send and deploy a Royal Navy ship to Gaza to join the humanitarian mission in the Cyprus maritime corridor.

The ship will support the creation of an international humanitarian maritime corridor from Cyprus to Gaza alongside the delivery of new British aid to Gaza. The corridor, supported by many of our partner governments and the United Nations, is expected to be operational in early May.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the British government will pay 9.7 million pounds to help create the corridor.

Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said: “The situation in Gaza is dire and the prospect of famine is real.” We remain committed to getting help to those who need it most. Together with the United States, Cyprus and other partners, we are establishing a new temporary dock on the coast so that Gaza can receive aid as quickly and safely as possible.

Earlier, European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the European Union, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Cyprus will jointly launch the Cyprus Sea Corridor to send humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
