According to the announcement of the fire department, “the fire caused partial damage to the entrance door of Sanders’ office and the plumbing of the third floor and the lower floors suffered heavy damage.” The police announced in a statement that an unknown person left the building by spraying a flammable substance and setting it on fire.
According to the police of the city of Burlington in the state of Vermont, no suspects have been arrested in connection with this incident, but the nature of the fire was “intentional”. Sanders was the mayor of Burlington in the 1980s, became a member of Congress in 1987, and has been a senator since 2007.
