The war in Ukraine will not turn into a nuclear confrontation
The former chancellor of Germany believes that Berlin and Paris should pave the way for a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine. |
report Mehr News quoted by Rashatoudi, Gerhard Schroeder, the former chancellor of Germany (198-2005), says that Berlin and Paris should take the lead in the diplomatic settlement of the war in Ukraine.
Schröder, refusing to deny his long-standing friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that this long-standing friendship could make him a mediator in the current situation.
Indicating that reaching a peace agreement is still possible, he said: I fully believe that Putin is also interested in this (negotiation).
Schroeder also believes that he does not believe in the war spreading beyond Ukraine or turning it into a nuclear war.
He also praised the current chancellor of Germany, Olaf Schultz, for refusing to send long-range missiles “Taurus” to Ukraine. However, according to the German politician, Berlin and Paris should play a more active role in the front line of negotiation and diplomatic settlement of the war, and thus end the bloodshed.
Schröder held a birthday party in St. Petersburg in 2014, and Putin was also present. In 2006, he chaired the shareholder committee of the Nordstream pipeline operator, and later held a position in the board of directors of the Russian energy giant (Rosneft). Of course, he resigned from his last post a few months after the start of the war in Ukraine (February 2022).
