South Korea’s second military spy satellite has been put into orbit

South Korea's second military spy satellite has successfully entered Earth orbit after being launched from a US space station.

According to KBS, the Ministry of Defense of South Korea announced in a statement: This military spy satellite at 9:20 am this Monday (local time) , has been successfully separated from its launcher and placed in the intended orbit.

This military spy satellite was launched at 7:17 PM (local time) on Sunday afternoon by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida, USA.

According to the KBS news channel, this military spy satellite made its first contact with a ground station outside of South Korea 45 minutes after being separated from SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.

The successful connection of this satellite with a ground station indicates that it has been successfully placed in the intended orbit and has a normal function.

The South Korean military has so far launched two of its military spy satellites under a project launched in 2018 with the aim of strengthening surveillance capabilities and rapid response against key North Korean strategic targets, and plans to launch three satellites by 2025. In the continuation of this program, put another military in the earth’s orbit.

This is despite the fact that the launch of North Korea’s military reconnaissance satellite was met with widespread protests by South Korea, Japan and the United States, because the United Nations had previously prohibited North Korea from launching satellites and considered these launches a cover for Tests of missile technology called Pyongyang.

On the other hand, Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jun-un, condemned the criticism of the United States regarding the launch of North Korea’s military satellite and that this action has endangered the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula region, saying: Washington’s double standards and arbitrary actions undermine regional peace and stability.
