Spain’s lobbying in the European Union for the recognition of the independent state of Palestine
The Prime Minister of Spain seeks to recognize the independent state of Palestine in consultation with European authorities. |
One of the consequences of the Gaza war was that many countries in the world realized their mistake in the lack of hope among the Palestinians to form an independent state. This is now the main motivation among different countries to recognize the independent state of Palestine in order to start a new round of peace negotiations to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
According to the Reuters news agency, Spain intends to lobby the European Union for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
According to Madrid officials, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is going to consult with several European officials about supporting the recognition of the independent state of Palestine in the next week.
According to the plans, Sanchez is going to meet and talk with the prime ministers of Norway, Ireland, Portugal, Slovenia, and Belgium about the position of the European Union on the Gaza war.
Pilar Algeria, the spokesperson of the Spanish government, told the media about this: We are looking to stop the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and we are trying to find a political solution to realize the two-state solution.
Pedro Sanchez emphasizes that Spain will probably recognize the independent state of Palestine by July. The countries of Malta, Ireland, Slovenia, and Spain have also supported this position. England and Australia are the latest countries that have welcomed the recognition of the independent state of Palestine.
However, Israel warned European countries about the recognition of Palestine, considering this action as a reward to Hamas for the October 7th attack.
