Ireland will soon recognize the state of Palestine

Ireland's foreign minister announced that his country has decided to recognize the state of Palestine in the coming weeks.

Michael Martin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, said: He will soon submit an official proposal to the government to recognize the state of Palestine.

During a speech in the Irish Parliament, he said that none of you have any doubt that the recognition of the Palestinian state will happen, and that delaying this will no longer be convincing or defensible.

Martin also told the Journal website, the official plan will be presented within the next two weeks, and during the last 6 months, discussions have been held with other countries participating in the peace initiatives.

The Palestinian ambassador in Ireland welcomed Dublin’s promise to officially recognize the state of Palestine and hopes that other EU members will follow suit.

Dr Jilan Wahba Abdul Majeed told RTÉ: “I hope this recognition of Ireland will soon become a reality and Ireland will lead the rest of the EU to it. Ireland has always stood on the right side of history, justice, international human rights , so I expected Ireland to take the lead in recognizing the state of Palestine.

Al-Nashrah wrote in this report that the leaders of Spain, Ireland, Slovakia and Malta announced their readiness to recognize the state of Palestine in a joint statement last month.

In this regard, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said today (Wednesday): recognizing the state of Palestine is a geopolitical expedient for Europe. He said: We are ready to recognize the state of Palestine.
