Russia: The West is not ready to condemn the attack on Zaporozhye power plant

Referring to the futility and unrealization of the theory of creating a security zone around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the permanent representative of Russia in Vienna warned: Western countries refuse to condemn the Ukrainian drone attack on this power plant due to political considerations.

According to the report of the international group Tasnim news agency quoting “Tass” news agency, Mikhail Ulyanov, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation in international organizations in Vienna, believes that the theory proposed to create a security zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is pointless and unworkable.

This Russian diplomat said in a conversation with reporters today, Saturday: “Some articles about this have been seen in the press and in oral statements, but in my opinion, this theory is not serious, because in the conditions of modern war – Missiles, artillery, and the same drones – all operate from long distances, and how big should this security zone be so that the power plant is no longer the target of attacks?”

He also expressed doubts that anyone could take responsibility for creating such a security zone. This Russian diplomat reminded: In particular, the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) does not include such tasks. So even the agency has no legal basis to do such a thing. Ulyanov added: “I have to say about the United Nations, with all the respect I have for the United Nations, I am not sure that this organization can play an appropriate and positive role regarding the current situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.” In my opinion, all these ideas are far-fetched and unrealizable.”

Russia’s permanent representative in Vienna also called on the West to influence and prevent Kyiv from continuing attacks on the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. Mikhail Ulyanov said: “If the Western countries supporting Kiev are afraid to publicly condemn the Ukrainian side after the recent attacks on the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, they can do it through bilateral channels.

Ulianov noted that the nuclear security of a number of European countries is under real threat, and if Kiev does not understand the unacceptability of its actions, the West should act more actively in this field. The permanent representative of Russia added: Of course, there is no “magic wand” in this regard, but every opportunity and possibility should be used to do everything possible in this field, and this is exactly what the Russian side is doing.

On Friday, Ulyanov also expressed his regret that Western countries are not ready to condemn the attacks of the Ukrainian side on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. According to him, the West covered up the Ukrainian attacks on nuclear facilities due to political considerations, because for them it is more important than the nuclear safety of the entire Eastern European region. The diplomat also added that Ukraine tried to shift the focus from itself to Moscow at an extraordinary meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors on the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, calling the attacks “Russia’s false flag operation,” which is certainly not convincing to anyone. .
