Zelensky signed the controversial conscription law
Ukraine's president signed controversial legislation to potentially expand conscription in the war against Russia and mobilize more troops into the war. |
Ukraine is currently facing difficulties in stopping Russia’s advance. Ukrainian soldiers have fewer soldiers and weapons than the Russian army. The currently signed law is weakened compared to the text of the original draft. The law no longer includes a provision that allows rotation for soldiers who have completed 36 months of combat service. According to officials, a separate law on rotation will be drafted in the coming months. The delay has angered relatives of soldiers who have been fighting non-stop for two years. Zelensky announced in December that Ukraine’s military wants to mobilize another 500,000 troops.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also said that China can accelerate the path to peace in Ukraine. Zelensky wrote on the X online service: I am of the opinion that the first world peace conference in Switzerland can pave the way for a just peace for Ukraine, this can be achieved by China’s active role in the Ukraine conference in Switzerland. According to Zelenskiy, China’s active role can definitely accelerate our progress in this direction. At the same time, the President of Ukraine thanked German Chancellor Olaf Schulz for the leadership role of Germany. The chancellor recently ended a three-day trip to China by urging Chinese President Xi Jinping to urge Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine. According to German Chancellor Xi, he agreed to support a conference planned for mid-June in Switzerland.
China plays a key role in the conflict because of its close ties with Russia. The West criticizes the fact that Beijing has never condemned Russia’s attack on its neighbor. Since the start of the war more than two years ago, Moscow and Beijing have deepened their economic ties and strategic partnership.
