China: Tel Aviv should abandon any plans to attack Rafah
The representative of China in the United Nations demanded a ceasefire in Gaza and no ground attack on the southern city of Rafah. |
Zhang Jun, the representative of China in the United Nations, at the meeting of the Security Council, demanded an increase in the efforts of “influential countries” to establish a ceasefire in Gaza and emphasized that the Zionist regime should abandon any plan to attack the city of Rafah.
According to Al Jazeera, the representative of China pointed to the Zionists’ obstruction of aid to Gaza and said: “Israel must follow the Security Council resolution and open the crossings for more aid to Gaza.”
In this meeting, which was held at the request of Algeria for the full membership of Palestine in the United Nations, the representative of Russia also supported the approval of the said resolution in similar statements and demanded to facilitate the arrival of aid to the Gaza Strip.
Palestinians are seeking international recognition of their country on the 1967 borders and joining the United Nations as a full member state. However, analysts expect the United States to veto the resolution proposed by Algeria today.
The resolution of the Security Council needs at least 9 votes in favor to be approved and must not be vetoed by 5 permanent members (China, Russia, France, England and the United States). If approved, this resolution will go to the UN General Assembly, which has 193 members, where Palestine must obtain a two-thirds vote.
