United Nations: Every 10 minutes a child is injured or dies in Gaza
The director of the United Nations Children's Fund warned about the high number of child martyrs in Gaza. |
According to Catherine Russell, Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), more than 13,800 Palestinian children have been martyred in the Gaza Strip since the start of the devastating Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip on October 7.
Russell confirmed at a news conference in New York: Thousands of people have been injured and thousands more are on the brink of starvation.
The United Nations Organization for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women announced in a separate statement that “every ten minutes a child is injured or dies in Gaza.”
The statement adds that since the beginning of the war, more than 10,000 women have been killed in Gaza, 6,000 of whom have left 19,000 orphaned children.
Tess Ingram, a UNICEF communications specialist who recently visited Gaza, told a news conference in Geneva on Tuesday that what struck her was the number of wounded children she saw: “Not just in hospitals, But in the streets, in temporary shelters. They continue their changed lives.”
Israel has carried out a deadly military attack on the Gaza Strip since the Hamas border attack on October 7, 2023. In these attacks, at least 3,3900 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been martyred, and more than 76,600 others have been injured in the midst of mass killing and lack of essential equipment.
