Islamabad’s reaction to the new US sanctions against Pakistan’s missile program

In a statement today, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan reacted to the action of the US Department of State in sanctioning four Chinese and Belarusian institutions for cooperation with Pakistan in the field of ballistic and long-range missiles.

Mumtaz Zahra emphasized that Pakistan rejects the political use of arms export control regime and emphasizes that such items have legitimate commercial uses, so it is important to avoid arbitrary actions in the field of export controls.

He added: There is a need for discussion between relevant parties for an objective mechanism to ensure access to technology in line with socio-economic development.

The spokesperson of Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry added: It is a fact that the same jurisdictions that claim to apply strict non-proliferation controls have waived the licensing requirements for advanced military technologies for some countries, and this leads to the manufacture of weapons, so Islamabad’s emphasis on Regional asymmetries and preventing the weakening of the goals of non-proliferation and regional and global peace and security.

He said: Pakistan has always been ready to discuss approved mechanisms so that commercial and legal users are not harmed by the discriminatory application of export controls.

In continuation of its unilateral actions against the defense cooperation of other countries and by claiming to strengthen the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, the United States sanctioned four foreign organizations for allegedly cooperating with Pakistan in the field of ballistic and long-range missile programs.

Pakistan has always emphasized that the activities of this country in the field of producing military weapons, including all types of missiles and nuclear weapons, are completely clear and this country has not committed any mistake in this direction.
