According to the Bloomberg news agency, this document was unanimously approved in the Senate. The law, once signed by the president, will ban Russian uranium imports into the United States for 90 days after it takes effect, although it allows for temporary exemptions until January 2028.

As ​​such, the initiative would allow the US Department of Energy, in agreement with the Secretary of State and the Secretary of the Treasury, to issue permits to import Russian uranium in volumes permitted by current US law. The document also imposes obligations on the Department of Energy to provide Congress with options to replace uranium imported from Russia. to ban Russian enriched uranium, and until now, the review of this initiative in Congress had “deadlocked”.

According to the US Department of Energy, Russia supplies nearly a quarter of the enriched uranium used to fuel more than 90 commercial nuclear reactors.
