Burrell, pointing out that he is witnessing more confrontation and less cooperation in global relations and affairs, said: When it comes to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the war in Ukraine, some countries do not want to follow Brussels!
He claimed: Today, Putin is a threat to all of us that endangers our existence. If Putin succeeds in Ukraine, he will not stop there. Russia’s victory will undermine European security. However, not everyone in the EU thinks so!
The senior EU diplomat added: Some members of the European Council say that “No, Russia is not an existential threat. At least in my opinion, it is not like that, and I personally consider Russia a good friend”! In a union where consensus rules, our policies towards Russia are always “threatened” by just one dissenting vote, and that one vote is enough!
The European Union has imposed several rounds of sanctions against Moscow since the start of the Ukraine war in February 2022. However, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his Slovak counterpart, Robert Fico, refused to send weapons to Ukraine and insisted on a diplomatic solution to the war.
