The growing dissatisfaction of Europeans with democracy
Following the suppression of pro-Palestine protests in the West, especially the United States, England, Germany, Italy and France, which began after the October 7 operation by Hamas, the results of a study show that dissatisfaction with democracy in Europe is increasing. |
according to the report of the international group Tasnim news agency, Euro News channel wrote citing the result of a global study that dissatisfaction with democracy in Some parts of Europe are increasing because the governments failed to meet the democratic expectations of the citizens. The world, including the 15 member states of the European Union, is considered the largest evaluator of democracy in the world, conducted a study between February and April of this year.
According to this study, although Most citizens of the European Union (57%) consider their country to be democratic, but in the three countries of France, Greece and Hungary, the majority now believe that they do not live in a democracy.
In addition to suppressing protests in support of Palestine, which has taken place in major European countries, as well as the recent student movement, which is facing harsh treatment by the security forces of Western countries, the protests of the Europeans themselves regarding the increase in prices, the request for an increase in wages, and the farmers’ protest movement have been fruitless.
After the exit from the Corona crisis and also the start of the Ukraine war, which was accompanied by great economic consequences for Europe, the issue of rising prices and insufficient wages caused protests by the people of many European countries, including Germany , England and France.
In most of the protests and requests raised by the protesters (such as opposing the increase in the retirement age in France or the increase in wages in England or farmers’ protest against the competition (unequal to Ukrainian products) mostly did not work out and this can be one of the factors that discourage people about democracy in the European Union.
