According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency quoted by Baghdad Al-Youm, the meeting of the Iraqi parliament has started to elect a new speaker.
Iraqi parliamentary sources announced that the number of representatives present at the meeting is 258.
At the beginning of the meeting, Salem Al-Eisawi, Talal Al-Zubaei, Amer Abdul Jabbar and Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani were nominated for the chairmanship of the parliament.
Al-Firat News reported that Talal al-Zubai has withdrawn from the candidacy in favor of Al-Mashhadani.
Iraqi sources announced that the main competition will be between Al-Eisawi and Al-Mashhadani.
It should be said that during the past few months, the meeting of the Iraqi parliament to elect a new president was unsuccessful. Before this, Tadegh Party, headed by Mohammad Al-Halbousi, the deposed Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, announced that his candidate for this position is Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani has previously also served as the head of the Iraqi parliament.
Other Sunni political groups have also nominated other people such as Salem Al-Eisawi for this position.
