Minutes ago, it was announced that the session of the Iraqi parliament began to elect a new speaker. At the beginning of the session, Salem Al-Eisawi, Talal Al-Zubaei, Amer Abdul Jabbar and Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani were nominated for the chairmanship of the parliament.

Al-Furat News reported that Talal al-Zubaei, one of the candidates for the presidency of the parliament, withdrew his nomination in favor of Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani at the last moment.

Iraqi sources announced that the main competition will be between Al-Eisawi and Al-Mashhadani.

It should be said that during the past few months, four meetings of the Iraqi parliament to elect a new president were unsuccessful. Before this, Tadegh Party, headed by Mohammad Al-Halbousi, the deposed Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, announced that his candidate for this position is Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani has previously also served as the head of the Iraqi parliament.

Other Sunni political groups have also nominated other people such as Salem Al-Eisawi for this position.
