Medvedev: The results of the Swiss conference on Ukraine are unimportant

The deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council announced that the results of the Ukrainian peace conference in Switzerland will not have any significance or effect.

report Mehr News quoted by Tass, Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, announced on Tuesday that any decision from the conference on Ukraine, which the Swiss authorities plan to hold on June 15-16, It will be unimportant.

Medvedev published a message on X social network and said: “Conference” of Ukraine in Switzerland is near. It is clear that the outcome of this gathering will be insignificant: peace talks are never held with only one conflicting party.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that neither Ukrainian politicians nor Western politicians are ready for serious negotiations with Moscow, and he described the upcoming meeting hosted by Switzerland about Ukraine as “non-serious negotiations”.

He, who was talking to the “ATV” channel Bosti, said about this: We don’t see anyone to talk to. I pay attention to the statements of the leaders of Ukraine, the United States and Europe, and their political class. None of them are ready for a serious conversation. They play a negotiation show by holding a meeting in Switzerland. The Copenhagen framework has reached a dead end.

Lavrov emphasized that the West is trying to get the maximum number of developing countries and countries of the global South to “gather” in Switzerland “by bribery or fraud, blackmail and lies”.

Switzerland will hold a meeting on Ukraine on June 15-16 near the city of Lucerne. About 160 countries have been invited to this meeting, but Russia will not participate in it. Sergey Garmonin, the Russian ambassador in Bern, previously told Sputnik that Russia will not participate in any form in the meeting, which aims to provide Moscow with a deadline.

According to Garmonin, “the meeting will turn into a loud but empty public relations campaign.” Moscow has repeatedly announced that it is ready for negotiations, but Kiev has introduced a ban on them at the legislative level.

Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman last week, repeating Russia’s previous position on negotiations for a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian war, said that any negotiations without Russia’s presence and participation will not lead to results.

Pskov said in response to a question about the Ukrainian peace conference to be held in Switzerland: We do not understand what a turning point this peace conference is! What should be expected from such a conference? Without the presence and participation of Russia, how can we talk about the outcome of the conference? Such an event is absolutely not possible.

He added: This (conference) is an initiative that is not designed to achieve results! Russia’s position on peace talks is clear and well-known. Our position is consistent, completely transparent and the president has repeated and confirmed it many times.

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko in the Kremlin on April 11, and after that, Putin emphasized that Moscow has never rejected the peaceful settlement of conflicts and always He has been inclined towards this solution.
