Re-holding pro-Palestinian student protests in Berlin
Protests in support of the Palestinians and condemnation of the Gaza war were once again held at Humboldt University in Berlin. |
The so-called Berlin Student Alliance announced that the issue of “unconditional solidarity with the Palestinian people” is at issue here. It accused Israel of genocide and ongoing mass killings.
The group also demanded acceptance of the occupation and their presence and a ban on police action. This protest group also asked the university administration to carry out a complete scientific and cultural boycott of Israel.
As a result of this protest, the executive board of Humboldt University Berlin sought to talk with the activists. According to the spokesperson of this university, the protestors accepted the offer of dialogue. Based on this, the goal is for the activists to leave voluntarily and not be fired.
The police cordoned off parts of the building and said they are in close coordination with the university administration.
In the past few weeks, demonstrations by Palestinian supporters were held in this university. Demonstrations and protest camps were also held in other universities in Germany and Europe. A pro-Palestinian protest camp at Berlin’s Free University was cleared by police in early May.
