Pedro Sanchez said in this speech: Spain joins more than 140 countries that have recognized Palestine as an independent country.
He added: The recognition of the Palestinian state is not only a historical necessity, but also a way to achieve peace. Our point of view regarding the recognition of the Palestinian state is in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations and the position of the European Union.
Sanchez continued: Our decision to recognize Palestine is not an action against Israel or in support of Hamas. We do not recognize any changes to the 1967 borders without the agreement of the Israelis and Palestinians. We demand a ceasefire and we will support the Palestinian state, which will be a partner in peace.
The Prime Minister of Spain noted: The recognition of the Palestinian state is a historic step that allows Palestinians and Israelis to reach peace. The only way to peace is a two-state solution. We will contribute to the efforts to restore the state of Palestine to the international forums.
Pedro Sanchez also said: The current priority is to end the unprecedented crisis in Gaza and the crossings must be opened to send humanitarian aid to this strip. We must immediately end the escalation of the crisis in the Gaza Strip and establish a ceasefire. We are committed to security in the region and will cooperate with Arab countries to hold a peace conference.
