A verbal conflict between the UAE foreign minister and a senior official of the self-governing organization

According to the report of the international group Tasnim news agency, Axios website reported that the April meeting between the US Secretary of State and a group of Arab officials in Riyadh became the scene of a verbal conflict between the UAE Foreign Minister and a senior official of the Palestinian Authority, and the Emirati diplomat described the leadership of this organization as ineffective.

According to this report, UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed said during the meeting that no real reforms have been made in the self-governing organization. He compared its leadership to “Alibaba and 40 Thieves”. The UAE should provide financial aid to such an organization.

Hussein Al-Sheikh, Secretary General of the Implementation Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and a close advisor of Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the Palestinian Authority, has also shouted that no one can to dictate to them how to carry out the reforms.

According to an Emirati official, Abdullah bin Zayed stressed that if the self-governing organization is as committed to security cooperation with Israel was paying attention to its people, the Palestinians were better off.

An informed source said that the parties left the meeting in anger after this verbal conflict. 

The Palestinian Authority has a turbulent relationship with the UAE, especially after the country normalized its relations with the Zionist regime in September 2020. Also, according to the reports, the relationship between Mahmoud Abbas and Mohammed bin Zayed, the president of the UAE, is cold. And the majority of the countries present at the meeting, such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Qatar, have run out of patience.
