Will mine laying on the common border with Russia/Poland close the sword?

The former defense minister of Poland demanded that the country withdraw from the "Ottawa" convention and use anti-personnel mines along the border of this country and the Kaliningrad region of Russia.

report Mehr News Agency quoted Rashatudi, Marius Blaszczak, the former Minister of Defense and current member of the Polish Parliament, says that this country should use anti-personnel mines on the common border between Poland and Russia.

Blashak, who is a member of the Law and Justice Party in the Polish Parliament, was the Minister of Defense between 2018 and 2023, and after the defeat of his party, the Ministry of Defense handed over to Donald Tusk.

In a press conference, referring to the treaty banning the use of anti-personnel mines, he said: As part of the program to strengthen the eastern border, the authorities should use the “convention/treaty” leave Ottawa. Warsaw should lay mines along the common border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region, located between Poland and Lithuania.

Last month, Tusk publicly opposed the demining of the border with Russia and Belarus. According to him, Warsaw does not want to leave the Ottawa Convention. This treaty, which prohibits the use, production, stockpiling and proliferation of anti-personnel mines, was adopted in 1999 and 164 countries have ratified it. America, Russia, India and China are among the countries that have refused to ratify and implement this agreement.

Blashak’s request has been raised while yesterday the mayor of Warsaw announced the holding of an uncoordinated maneuver to ensure the proper functioning of the emergency services of the city’s shelters. The emergency drills in Warsaw came less than two days after Polish President Andrzej Duda called for the “decolonization of Russia by breaking it up into smaller states.” His statements and claims were made during the conference called “Peace of Ukraine” in Switzerland!

Blashak was responsible for sending tens of thousands of troops to the common border with Russia and Belarus last year on the eve of the Polish general elections. Referring to what it called the threat of “combined war” from Moscow and Minsk, the new government in Warsaw continued the Blashak mission and sending troops to the border region. Warsaw has always been a supporter of Kyiv since the beginning of the Ukrainian war in February 2022. Poland also acts as a logistics center for almost all shipments of NATO weapons, equipment and ammunition to Ukraine.
