The Prime Minister of the Netherlands was appointed as the new Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency According to Reuters, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte was appointed as the Secretary General of the US-led military alliance at the meeting of NATO ambassadors in Brussels.

Ruthe was appointed to this position and replaced Jens Stoltenberg in a situation where the war in Ukraine has created a security crisis for the members of this military coalition.

US President Joe Biden and his counterparts will officially welcome Rutte at the NATO summit hosted by Washington on July 9-11.

The Dutch Prime Minister will officially replace Stoltenberg from October 1. Stoltenberg has been the Secretary General of NATO for more than a decade. His General Secretary’s term was extended several times due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine in February 2022. Stoltenberg warmly welcomed Rothe’s appointment as his successor.
