China: NATO should stop blackmail and nuclear threats

Rejecting the claims of the West, China's Ministry of Defense asked NATO to stop blackmail considering the role it can play in ending the crisis in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defense of China said on Thursday that the West ignores its role in the Ukraine crisis and places its responsibility on China, emphasizing that Beijing rejects this approach.

According to Sputnik’s report, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said at a press conference: China defends peace, stands on the right side of history, and strongly rejects accusations that ignore the facts.

He added: China will continue to play a constructive role in the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis. China maintains normal trade relations with other countries, including Russia, but does not supply arms to the belligerents.

Early this month, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that the country will continue to cooperate with the international community and make unremitting efforts to support the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

The Ministry’s statement about the peace initiative proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin states: We paid attention to the relevant initiative. Regarding the issue of Ukraine, China has always adhered to an objective and fair position and has firmly and effectively contributed to the peace talks.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also pointed out that in February 2023, Beijing published a position document to resolve the Ukraine crisis, which includes 12 points, including respect for sovereignty, the start of peace talks, and the lifting of unilateral sanctions.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Russia has a positive view of China’s peace plan for Ukraine, as it proposes to deal with the root causes of the conflict.
