Zelensky: By the end of the year, we will present a plan to end the war

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in a joint press conference with his Slovenian counterpart, Natasha Pirek Musar, that Ukraine plans to present a detailed peace plan later this year and wants to finally end the conflict.

“We are currently working on three detailed plans on energy, food security and [prisoner] exchange,” Zelenskiy said, according to Tass. I am sure that we will solve these problems”.

Zelensky reiterated that Kiev wants to see an end to the conflict and hopes to “achieve a just peace as soon as possible.” 

On Thursday, he also admitted in a rare statement that his country is not interested in prolonging the conflict amid heavy casualties of the war for Ukraine. 

Zelensky’s recent statements regarding peace and negotiation show a serious difference from his previous positions. In October 2022, Zelensky signed a law banning any negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He had also presented another peace plan before. Zelensky’s ten-point peace plan was presented for the first time in the fall of 2022 and called for the complete and unconditional withdrawal of Russian forces from all regions of Ukraine. The plan also called for the formation of an international court for Russian military commanders and also for receiving compensation from Russia. At the same time, Russia called this plan very “unrealistic”. 

Ukraine’s army has suffered heavy casualties in recent months, and it is reported that some people eligible for military service are fleeing across the border. This country is facing a shortage of manpower and ammunition, and every day more war experts are calling for negotiations and an end to the war process in it.
