Washington’s new proposal to guarantee a ceasefire in Gaza

Reports indicate that the US has proposed new conditions to guarantee the Gaza ceasefire.

Informed sources told Axios that Washington may have proposed new conditions in an effort to secure an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

U.S. officials presented a new proposal for Article 8 of the cease-fire talks proposal to determine the terms of the second phase of the agreement, people familiar with the matter said.

According to these sources, Hamas wants the talks to focus on the number of Palestinian prisoners to be released in exchange for all male Israeli prisoners, while Israel wants to discuss the demilitarization of Gaza. One of these knowledgeable sources stated that if Hamas agrees to the new proposal, it could pave the way for the two sides to finalize the agreement.

The President of the United States previously published the details of the 3-stage plan on his user account on X (former Twitter). This three-stage plan includes a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas in Gaza, the release of some prisoners and the delivery of the bodies of some prisoners, the return of Palestinian civilians to their homes in Gaza, the increase of humanitarian aid in the first stage; The permanent end of hostilities, the engagement for the release of the remaining prisoners, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza in the second stage and the main plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, the delivery of the bodies of the prisoners to their families in the third stage.
