Trump’s ex-advisor was jailed

A former Trump adviser surrendered to prison today to serve a four-month sentence for insulting Congress.

Steve Bannon, former US President Donald Trump’s senior adviser, will go to prison today to begin his four-month sentence for insulting Congress.

According to RT, Bannon (age 70) was convicted in July 2022 of failing to respond to a subpoena to testify before a congressional committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol by Trump supporters.

On that day, Trump asked his supporters to go to Washington and said in a post on Platform X: Big demonstration in Washington on January 6. Be there, we will be loud!

The ensuing violent attack led to the closure of the Capitol building and the suspension of the impeachment hearing of Joe Biden as President. Meanwhile, the American representatives fled, five people were killed and dozens were injured.

Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison in October 2022, but the Trump adviser remained free while the court considered his appeal against the conviction. A federal appeals court upheld the ruling last month. Accordingly, Judge Carl Nicholas revoked his bail at a hearing in early June and sentenced him to prison on July 1.

As the Republican candidate in the 2024 election, Trump is currently facing 17 federal and state criminal charges, as well as 74 other criminal charges.
