US interventionist statements about Iran’s presidential elections

In response to the participation rate in the 14th Iranian presidential election, the US State Department official repeated Washington's usual claims against Tehran.

This official of the US State Department further claimed: “Our opinion is that the elections in Iran are not free and fair, and we have no expectations that any result of these elections will lead to a fundamental change in Iran’s path or the Iranian government’s respect for human rights and The rights of the people will not be their own.”

Patel, in response to another question from the same reporter about the reason why the Biden government allowed Iran to hold elections on American soil, in view of Canada’s opposition, said: Foreign countries that want to hold elections on American soil should do so according to American laws. to do.

Deputy spokesman of the US State Department added: We respect the rights of the Iranian people and those who want to participate in the elections, as well as those who oppose these elections.

After the Guardian Council approved the qualification of 6 candidates for the presidential election, on June 20, the competition between Masoud Mezikian, Mostafa Pourmohammadi, Saeed Jalili, Alireza Zakani, Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi and Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf as qualified candidates for the 14th election cycle The presidency began, and after Ghazizadeh Hashemi and Zakani withdrew from the competition, the election between the remaining four candidates was held on July 8.

With the announcement of the official results of the election on Saturday, July 9, the election was extended to the second round, which is also seen in the constitution and Article 117 of the constitution states that: “The president is elected by the absolute majority of the votes of the participants. But if none of the candidates get such a majority in the first round, a second vote will be taken on Friday of the following week. In the second round, only two of the candidates who got more votes in the first round participate, but if some of the candidates with more votes withdraw from the election, from among the rest, the two who got more votes in the first round will participate. They are nominated for re-election.” According to this principle, the president is elected by the absolute majority of the votes of the participants.

With the announcement of the final results of the presidential election in the first stage, Saeed Jalili and Masoud Mezikian entered the second stage of the election competition, and the second stage of the election will be held on Friday, July 15.
