Biden: Trump is not above the law

U.S. President Joe Biden, in response to the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court on former U.S. President Donald Trump, said: “No one in this country is above the law.” The decision of the Supreme Court has created a dangerous precedent and threatens the rule of law in our country and provides the possibility for any American president to ignore the law. The current Democratic President of the United States pointed to the January 6, 2021 riot and said: Four years ago, Trump led a group of criminals who attacked the seat of power (Congress) and demanded the execution of the Vice President (Mike Pence). But today, Trump is encouraged to do whatever he wants. People have a right to know what happened on January 6, but now after the Supreme Court’s decision, it has become difficult. Americans should oppose the Supreme Court’s ruling on Trump’s immunity and show whether, despite his attack on democracy, he is still fit to serve or not?

The Supreme Court of the United States announced on Monday local time in a ruling that the former presidents of this country are immune from prosecution for some actions taken during their office. The Supreme Court of the United States announced with 6 votes in favor against 3 votes against. While former presidents can take actions within the framework of their legal authority and enjoy immunity, they do not enjoy immunity for private actions.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts said: “We conclude that, under the constitution, the nature of the power of the presidency requires that a former president be immune from criminal prosecution for official actions while in office. At least according to the main powers of the presidency in the constitution, this immunity should be absolute.”

After the US Supreme Court ruling, Trump considered it a great victory for democracy. This ruling postpones the decision to prosecute Trump for conspiracy to change the outcome of the 2020 election.

Trump is accused of making false claims about fraud in the 2020 American election, deceiving the United States of America, violating civil rights, and pressuring officials to change the election results.

The Supreme Court analyzed four groups of accusations contained in Trump’s indictment. These allegations include: Trump’s conversations with Justice Department officials after the 2020 election; Trump’s alleged pressure on then-Vice President Mike Pence to prevent Congress from confirming Biden’s election victory; Trump’s alleged role in gathering fake voters in his favor for use in the certification process and his conduct related to the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol by his supporters.

The U.S. Supreme Court has declared that Trump is completely immune from speaking with Justice Department officials. The court also declared that Trump also has “immunity” regarding his interactions with Mike Pence. However, regarding the other two accusations, the Supreme Court left the decision on Trump’s immunity to the lower courts.

 This is the first time since the formation of the United States in the 18th century that the Supreme Court of this country declares that the former presidents of this country are immune from criminal charges in any case. The conservative majority of the Supreme Court includes three judges who were appointed by Trump. The decision of the US Supreme Court means that the case will be postponed until after the US presidential election, which will be held in November.

Trump has been one of the prominent figures of the Republican Party since 2016, when he became the President of the United States for the first time, who lost to his Democratic rival Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Americans will go to the polls on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 (November 15, 1403) to elect the next president of the United States. The winner of this election will start the four-year presidential term from January 2025.
