Announcing Maduro’s agreement to resume negotiations with the United States

The president of Venezuela agreed with the resumption of negotiations with the United States and predicted that these negotiations will be held this week.

According to the Associated Press, Maduro said in a televised speech that talks with the United States are an “urgent” issue and agreed to resume these talks on Wednesday. In 2 consecutive months, I received a proposal from the American government to resume direct talks (between the two countries).

Maduro announced the news that presidential elections are to be held in this Latin American country on July 28.

According to reports, Maduro and 9 other candidates have registered to participate in this election. Eight of the candidates, including Maduro, have pledged to recognize “the will of the people as expressed through votes” and the election results, which will be announced by Venezuela’s National Electoral Council.

The agreement to recognize the results of the presidential election was not signed by Edmondo González, the far-right candidate of the United Platform, and Enrique Máquez, the candidate of the Centados Party. Last year, the Maduro government and the Venezuelan opposition agreed to hold free and fair elections with the presence of international observers do.

In response to this agreement, America reduced part of its sanctions against Venezuela. But preventing Maria Corina Machado, the most important candidate of the opposition in the election, made Washington return the sanctions.

This is the third time that Maduro is running for a 6-year term as president of Venezuela. America and Europe did not recognize his victory in the 2018 elections and imposed sanctions on Venezuela.
