The death of at least 60 people in India

The overcrowding and trampling of people left dozens dead in India. 

According to the Reuters news agency, local authorities say that during a religious ceremony in the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, a large number of people were left underfoot. Estimates indicate that 60 people may have lost their lives during this incident. 

The spokesperson of the local police announced about this incident: I cannot provide exact statistics about the number of dead in this incident, but our approximate estimate is 60 people. However, the death toll is likely to rise. 

Images published on social networks show the bodies of dozens of people piled up outside a local hospital. 

Local authorities announced the beginning of the investigation into this incident.
