Heat wave in India killed 18 people
While the air temperature in India has risen above 50 degrees Celsius and the country is experiencing its most intense heat wave, the media say that at least 18 people in the country died due to heatstroke.
According to Reuters, 10 and 7 people died in the eastern states of Odisha and Bihar, respectively, and 1 person died in Delhi due to the scorching heat.
It is said that a flight from India to San Francisco, America, was delayed for 20 hours, because some passengers fainted due to extreme heat while waiting for the plane to take off. The media say that the said plane did not have an air conditioning system.
Experts say heat waves are becoming more intense due to climate change. Last year was the hottest year in human history, and there are signs that 2024 could be even hotter.
