Netanyahu meets with Biden on the sidelines of the joint session of the Congress and the Senate
A White House official said that US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are scheduled to meet at the end of this month during the Israeli Prime Minister’s visit to Washington DC to address Congress.
Netanyahu has been invited to give a speech at the joint session of the House of Representatives and the Senate on July 24 (August 3rd) and this invitation has led to widespread negative reactions. The speech has been boycotted by several prominent progressive US politicians, including Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.
Bernie Sanders, an independent American senator, criticized Mike Johnson, the speaker of the US House of Representatives, for inviting Netanyahu to speak at a joint session of Congress and said: “Mr. Johnson should explain to the American people why he thinks It is the right thing to invite the cause of the death of about 38,000 Palestinians, 60% of whom are women, children, and the elderly.”
Tensions between US and Israeli leaders are rising, with Biden calling Israel’s military campaign in Gaza “severe”, while Netanyahu has accused the US of a lack of military support in recent weeks. Since October 7, 2023 (October 15), America has sent more than 6.5 billion dollars of weapons to Israel, which was nearly 3 billion dollars in May alone.
The United States intercepted a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs in early May. This shipment was stopped in order to put pressure on the Zionist regime and not carry out a large-scale military attack on Rafah.
