UNRWA: Children in Gaza spend hours looking for water and food

UNRWA says children in Gaza spend many hours searching for basic items to survive.

The Palestinian Refugee Agency of the United Nations says that children in Gaza spend 6 to 8 hours a day collecting water and food, carrying heavy weights and long walks.

According to Al Jazeera, the agency called for a ceasefire on X social network and wrote: “Sanitary facilities and infrastructure are severely endangered and thousands of families are forced to obtain water for washing or even drinking from salty sea water. ».

More than 60% of Gaza’s water and sewage facilities have been destroyed and its lack has caused the spread of many preventable diseases in this region. Reports indicate that the occupiers are deliberately targeting Gaza’s water wells. Meanwhile, the little purified water that can be found is sold at a very high price (US$5). Meanwhile, the vast majority of people have lost their jobs due to the war and are unable to buy water.

According to statistics published by the United Nations in June, water production from underground wells in Gaza has decreased from 35,000 cubic meters per day in the pre-war period to 15,000 cubic meters per day.
