Hollywood withdrew its support for Biden
A group of Hollywood figures, who have been important donors to the Democratic Party, asked US President Joe Biden to withdraw from his candidacy for the upcoming elections in the country after his disastrous performance in the debate with Donald Trump.
According to Axios, these people think that the White House and top officials of Biden’s election campaigns kept his health a secret and deceived them.
Netflix founder Reed Hastings has asked Biden to drop his candidacy. He and his wife have donated millions of dollars to Democrats in the past few years; including $1.5 million for the 2020 election and $100,000 for the 2024 election. In addition, prominent media companies such as “Interactive Corporation” and “Endeavor” have also expressed their lack of support for Biden.
Comments like this are not only disastrous for Biden, but also put pressure on his party. For example, Hollywood producer Abigail Disney, a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party, says she plans to stop all donations to the party until Biden is out of the running.
The Democratic Party has relied on Hollywood for decades to attract people’s support for elections. The Biden campaign held a fundraiser last month ahead of the disastrous debate. In this event, which was attended by famous movie stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts and famous host Jimmy Kimmel, 30 million dollars was collected for his campaign.
