Russian official: Russia has not decided to return to the Council of Europe

Grigory Lukyantsev, director of the multilateral human rights cooperation department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that Moscow has not decided to return to the Council of Europe, and there is no possibility of it at the moment.

According to the Russian news agency Tass, the Commissioner of Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law of Russia added in an interview with Izvestia newspaper: This is a completely hypothetical situation, because it is legally impossible for us to return to the Council of Europe.

According to this diplomat, “If you are not a member of the European Convention on Human Rights, it is impossible to be under the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights”.

He pointed out that Russia’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe was due to violation of the rules and wrong procedure by this Council.

Russia left the Council of Europe in March 2022. NATO countries and the European Union are continuously becoming an organization and a tool for anti-Russian politics. Russia announced in a statement in March 2022 (Esfand 1400) that the interests that are not friendly to Russia, such as the member countries of the European Union and NATO, from the absolute majority They abuse the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CMCE) and continue to destroy the Council.

The Russian Foreign Ministry, referring to the irreversible course of events, stated that Russia does not want to tolerate these mass destructive actions of the West. According to this statement, Moscow will not join NATO and the European Union until the oldest European organization takes another platform for slogans. The ministry added, let them enjoy communication with each other without Russia.

The Council of Europe is the oldest organization for the integration of Europe, which was established in 1949 (1328 AH) with the aim of expanding democracy, human rights, the rule of law and taking advantage of strong cultural cooperation, and 47 countries with a total population of 820 million are members of this organization. They are council.
