Washington Post: Gaza ceasefire talks are on the verge of agreement

A US official told Washington Post journalist David Ignatius that the US government appears to be close to a ceasefire agreement in Gaza to stop Israeli military attacks, facilitate the release and exchange of prisoners, and increase the delivery of humanitarian aid.

According to this journalist, the source, who did not want to be named, announced that “the framework of provisions has been agreed” and negotiations are underway on how to implement the agreement.

The plan, presented to Ignatius by US officials on Wednesday, proposes a three-step solution to the conflict. According to the plan, a six-week ceasefire would initially be established, during which Hamas would release 33 Israeli prisoners, including all women, men over 50, and the wounded. In return, Israel releases “hundreds” of Palestinian prisoners and withdraws its troops from populated areas to the eastern borders of Gaza. Humanitarian aid will be allowed in, hospitals will be repaired, and Gaza’s debris removal will begin.

Earlier, Netanyahu, regardless of experts’ acknowledgment of the Zionist regime’s grounding in the Gaza Strip and not achieving the main goals of the war in the Gaza Strip, i.e. the destruction of the Hamas movement and the return of the Zionist prisoners from this area, had said that any ceasefire agreement in Gaza should provide the possibility of continuing the war for Israel until the realization of all the goals of the war.

Yair Lapid, the head of the opposition wing of the Zionist regime, had previously admitted that Israel was not built for a long war and that Israel’s war in Gaza should be stopped. He emphasized the necessity of stopping the war of the Zionist regime army in the Gaza Strip, reaching an agreement with the Palestinian resistance and returning the Zionist prisoners from the Gaza Strip.
