Residents of another American state demanded independence from Washington
The NHEXIT “Exit New Hampshire” movement, which supports the independence of the US state of New Hampshire, advocated “complete secession from the United States” in order to make their state a “free and prosperous nation”. According to Newsweek newspaper, the relevant statement was published by the representatives of this organization.
Carla Gerlick, leader of the movement, said: “We must take back our [independent and separate] government and work to ensure that the rights and basic needs of residents are protected.”
It is noted that similar groups exist in California, Alaska, Louisiana, Florida and Texas. According to YouGov polls, more than a quarter of respondents living in these states do not support such an idea.
In 2023, the people of Hawaii also supported the separation of the state from the United States. At that time, activists among the indigenous people living in the territory of this American state supported the revival of Hawaii as a self-sufficient island state due to the forest fires on the islands and the lack of action by the federal authorities.
