Initial approval of Baghdad’s initiative to meet Assad and Erdogan

The Iraqi foreign minister announced on Friday night the initial agreement with Baghdad's initiative to arrange a meeting between the presidents of Turkey and Syria.

Fawad Hossein, the Iraqi Foreign Minister, in a conversation with the American Al-Hazza channel on the sidelines of his trip to Washington, announced: Iraq has an initiative to mediate between Ankara and Damascus, and our contacts in this regard are ongoing.

He announced that he met with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Washington on Wednesday, and during this meeting the issue of holding a Syrian-Turkish meeting was discussed.

Fawad Hossein also said that Baghdad is in constant communication with Syria about this.

Iraqi Foreign Minister continued: There is initial agreement with our initiative to hold a meeting between the presidents of Turkey and Syria, but so far no date has been set for this meeting.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced his intention to meet with Syrian President Bashar Assad and restore relations between the two countries and said: “2 weeks ago, from Asad, I wanted to meet in Turkey or a third country

Erdogan stated that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is responsible for arranging the meeting and said: “We want to overcome the problems in good relations and start a new process.”
