Syria’s condition for the normalization of relations between Damascus and Ankara
According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency, citing SANA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Syria issued a statement regarding the conditions for reforming relations between this country and Turkey.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Syria emphasized: In the current period, many positions and statements are expressed regarding the relations between Syria and Turkey. Syria would like to remind that it has always paid attention to the clear distinction between nations on the one hand and the policies and actions of the governments that have harmed Syria on the other hand. Events have proven this.
This statement continues: Syria still deeply believes, as in the past, that the interests of countries are based on healthy relations and not confrontation or hostility; On this basis, Syria has paid attention to positive interaction with all the initiatives proposed to improve its relations with such countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Syria stated that in this regard, this country has interacted with special initiatives to improve relations between Damascus and Ankara, and this action is based on the existing realities and the principles that Respect for sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and confronting all issues that threaten the security and stability of the two countries are their foundations.
This statement continues: Syria emphasizes that any initiative in this direction to ensure the achievement of the expected results and the return of relations between the two countries to their normal state. It must be based on clear principles. At the forefront of these principles is the withdrawal of illegal forces from Syrian soil and the fight against terrorist groups that threaten not only the security of Syria but also the security of Turkey.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry stated at the end of its statement: Syria appreciates the friendly and brotherly countries that have made sincere efforts to improve relations between Syria and Turkey, but It emphasizes that the normalization of relations between the two countries depends on the return of the situation to the situation before 2011. This issue is the basis of security, health and stability of the two countries.
