Schultz: Attacking Trump is disgusting
According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News, German Prime Minister Olaf Schultz reacted to the failed assassination of Donald Trump, former president and current candidate for the 2024 US presidential election, and described it as a threat to democracy.
Schultz wrote in a message on the “X” network: Such violent actions are a threat to democracy. Attacking Donald Trump, the candidate for the American election, is disgusting.
He added: I wish him a speedy recovery. I also express my sympathy to the people who were injured in this attack.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also condemned the attack and wrote in X: “I am deeply shocked by the shooting that took place during Trump’s election rally.” Political violence has no place in democracy.
Adrias Michailis, the German ambassador to the US, also expressed his displeasure over this attack and wrote: There were surprising scenes at Trump’s rally. It was a terrible shooting. Our hearts go out to the victims and we sympathize with them. We are relieved that Trump did not appear to be seriously injured. Political violence is not acceptable.
Trump was attacked behind the podium less than 10 minutes after the start of his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. At the time of the shooting, he was giving a speech about immigration when several gunshots were heard. After a while, he covered his ears with his hands and then lay down on the ground under the guidance of his security team.
According to the latest reports, Trump survived with a minor injury and a bullet hit his right ear. The US Secret Service shot and killed the assailant, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks. In this incident, one person present in the gathering was killed and 2 others were seriously injured.
Trump and Joe Biden, the current president of the United States, are the two candidates for the November presidential election in this country. In the first election debate of these two candidates, the American president was heavily criticized due to his lack of control and poor performance, and after this debate, speculations about the possibility of replacing him with another candidate for the Democratic Party have risen.
