The start of parliamentary elections in Syria
Syrian media sources announced this morning (Monday) the start of voting for the People’s Assembly (Parliament) elections of this country.
According to SANA news agency, the Supreme Judicial Election Committee of Syria announced that the voting for the People’s Assembly elections for the fourth legislative term began with the opening of the ballot boxes in all the polling centers in this country.
Syria’s Supreme Judicial Election Committee added that the number of final candidates for the People’s Assembly elections reached 1,516 people and 8,151 voting centers have been planned for the participation of citizens.
This committee also added that based on detailed study, polling stations have been determined in large residential areas and large labor gatherings.
The number of seats in the Syrian People’s Assembly is 250, and 8,953 candidates, including 1,317 women, are competing for it.
The Syrian People’s Assembly is the legislative body of this country since 1971. The last parliamentary elections in Syria were held on June 19, 2020.
This is the fourth election of the Syrian People’s Assembly since the beginning of the civil war in this country in 2011.
