Ashura was declared an official holiday in Iraq
The Prime Minister of Iraq ordered Wednesday to be an official holiday throughout the country on the occasion of Ashura day.
Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the Prime Minister of Iraq, ordered that Wednesday, July 17, 2024, equal to July 26, be an official holiday.
All government ministries and institutions are closed on this day on the occasion of the 10th of Muharram and the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (AS) on the day of Ashura.
It should be said that since Grand Ayatollah Sistani declared Monday, July 8, 2024 as the 1st of Muharram, Wednesday, July 17 is equivalent to July 26 in Iraq, the tenth day of Muharram and Ashura.
While announcing the completion of all preparations for Ashura day mourning in Karbala, the Iraqi authorities predicted that 6 million pilgrims will be present in Karbala in the first decade of Muharram to mourn Hosseini (PBUH).
