Assad’s statements about meeting with Erdogan and resuming relations

The President of Syria announced on the issue of resuming relations between Damascus and Ankara that if the meeting with Erdogan leads to positive results and is in line with the interests of his country, he will do so.

Bashar Assad stated: If the meeting with President Erdogan leads to results or fulfills the interests of our country, I will make this meeting.

He pointed out that the problem is not in the meeting with President Erdoğan, but in its content and purpose.

Assad added that the first question we should ask is why the relations between the two countries have deviated from their normal course since 13 years ago. During this time, we did not hear a Turkish official speaking openly about this issue.

Syrian President stated that we have a positive attitude towards any initiative to improve relations (with Turkey), this is normal, no one thinks of creating problems with their neighbors, but at the same time, it does not mean that. To move forward without rules and principles.

Assad added that the meeting is a tool and the tool needs practical rules and foundations, and the failure of this tool at any stage may force us to pay a higher price for the worse direction of Korea’s movement.

Syrian President stated that Syria insists that a meeting with Turkish officials is necessary regardless of its level, I am not talking about the meeting of the two presidents in general.

He added that the meetings with Turkey have not been stopped and are still ongoing, and meetings at the security level are being prepared by some mediators, and we have a positive position in this regard.
