Who is Trump’s deputy?

Trump, who has been chosen as the official Republican nominee, has chosen James David Vance as his running mate, whom he has previously described as an "idiot".

Donald Trump, the former president of the United States, chose “James David Vance” as his vice president at the Republican National Convention. Vance is a 39-year-old young senator from the state of Ohio who became a member of the Senate in 2022. He was always one of the staunch defenders of Trump’s slogan “We will restore greatness to America”, especially in the field of trade, foreign policy and immigration.

According to Al Jazeera, there are many concerns about Vance as a possible vice president because he is largely untested in the field of national politics.
Vance, who is a graduate of Ohio State University and Yale University, was a US Marine before joining the Senate and spent part of his service in Iraq. He also wrote a best-selling book explaining why Donald Trump is popular among poor white Americans.

From calling Trump a fool to joining him

Vance was one of Trump’s critics at first and described him as a “fraudster in every sense” and a “moral disaster”. 8 years ago, on the eve of the 2016 presidential election, he publicly called Trump an “idiot” and compared him to “Adolf Hitler” in private gatherings. However, he eventually changed his tune and said that he was proven wrong by Trump’s performance as president and became one of Trump’s staunchest defenders.

Positions regarding Iran

Vance, like Trump, is a critic of the JCPOA and supports a stricter policy against Tehran. However, last October, at the same time as the war against Gaza began, he called for the escalation of tensions in the region and said: “If they hit us, we must hit them…, but the attack on the Iranian mainland will escalate.” And it is a big mistake.” He said in another interview: “I think the most important thing for America here is to prevent the tension from turning into a wider regional conflict and secondly to defend Israel as its ally.”

Viewpoints about Palestine

Vance is a staunch supporter of the Zionist regime and supports a worldview that says America always comes first unless Israel is involved. He previously said in an interview with CNN in May: “Americans are not good at micro-managing wars in the West Asia. The Israelis are our allies. I think we should let them continue the war as they see fit”.

Vance was one of the first to claim that the attacks of the Hamas movement on October 7 occurred because US President Joe Biden was not tough enough on the resistance groups.

Some analysts say Vance’s choice as running mate was not so unexpected, as he has long participated in fundraisers for Trump and many convention delegates have already pledged their support.
