Lavrov: America wants unquestioning compliance from its allies

America’s attempt to expand NATO to Russia’s borders, extensive arms support to Ukraine, and finally the imposition of extensive sanctions against Moscow, have darkened the relations between the two countries since February 24, 2022. 

According to Al Jazeera, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov attacked the United States’ policies at the UN Security Council meeting, accusing the country of trying to impose unilateralism in the world and prevent multilateralism. 

This month (July), Russia holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, and Lavrov, as the head of this council, said in today’s meeting: The Western front is to contain Russia, China, and other countries of the world that have independent policies and They are considered a threat to American hegemony, it is destroying the world system and building a system based on its own interests. 

Accusing America of trying for unilateralism, he emphasized: America wants its allies to follow the orders of this country without any reason, even when it is against their national interests. US sovereignty law is a direct threat to multilateralism and international law. 

Linda Thomas Grillenfield, US ambassador to the United Nations, in response to Lavrov’s words, declared that Russia is not serious about international peace and cooperation in the global sphere and security. The all-out attack on Ukraine in February 2022 proves this. 

He added: When I was listening to Lavrov’s words, I thought we were in the wrong room, because his words in this meeting seemed to be grumbling about America and the West. I recognized the word multilateralism from his words layer by layer.
