Deputy Guterres: There is no safe place for Palestinians now
The meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in the West Asia and the Gaza war began.
According to Al Jazeera, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is on leave, and his deputy, Earl Courtney Rattray, gave a speech at the meeting. He said: Now the humanitarian support system in Gaza is collapsing. Public order has completely broken down and there are fears of the war spreading to other areas.
Referring to the brutality of the Zionist regime in Gaza, he added: “Nothing can justify Israel’s collective punishment policy against Palestinians.” Now Rafah has been destroyed and the crossing of this area is still closed. We are witnessing the displacement of 2 million Palestinians inside Gaza, which is almost equal to the entire population of this strip. Many of them have been displaced several times.
This senior UN official noted at the Security Council meeting: There is no safe place in Gaza now. However, the United Nations is still committed to sending relief and humanitarian aid to Gaza, but we are facing serious challenges along the way.
Earl Courtney Rattray added: We continue to see continuous attacks on relief forces and shelters. Health facilities and medical facilities are still the targets of Israeli attacks. We want unrestricted access to all areas of Gaza. This is necessary in order to distribute humanitarian items among the Palestinians.
This UN official once again called for the establishment of a ceasefire in Gaza, the massive influx of humanitarian aid to this strip and the exchange of prisoners between the parties to the conflict.
