Finnish military exercise near the Russian border

The headquarters of the ground forces of the Finnish army started a military exercise near the Russian border.

According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency, citing Sputnik, the Finnish army plans to hold an exercise near Russia.

The headquarters of the Finnish Army announced that due to the holding of this exercise, Valima border checkpoint will be closed until the beginning of August.

According to the announcement of the headquarters of the ground forces of the Finnish army, this exercise has started today (July 31). About 1.7 thousand troops and about 300 units of military equipment will participate in this exercise.

The headquarters of the ground forces of the Finnish army stated that the purpose of this exercise is to assess the ability of the military units to cooperate with the border guard and other departments.

Valima checkpoint, the closest point to St. Petersburg, will be closed during the exercise. This point is the busiest border crossing between the two countries and one of the busiest land border crossings in the entire European Union.
