Vatican: Zelensky’s peace formula is not enough to resolve the war in Ukraine
report Mehr News Agency quoted by Tass, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin pointed out that the formula of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is not enough to end the country’s war with Russia. There is still a long way to go until the resolution of this war.
Parulin visited this country for the first time since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022, earlier this week and met with senior officials of Kiev, including Zelensky.
He said about this trip: I think we are still far from the resolution of this war. There is Zelensky’s peace proposal, which the Vatican supports, especially in the field of humanitarian issues.
Parolin added: This proposal is an attempt to reach peace, although there are gaps in it due to Russia’s non-participation. This plan can help, but it is not enough. I hope other formulas will be proposed to smooth the path of negotiations.
The Vatican foreign minister also said that Zelensky’s previous statements about the meeting inviting Moscow to attend the next peace summit were a positive message.
He added: But in general, I don’t know if Moscow can be convinced on the basis of this (Zelensky) peace formula! However, Moscow should come to the negotiating table and should not be absent.
According to him, so far diplomacy has not succeeded in providing a solution.
He emphasized that diplomatic efforts require “a special balance, and this means not taking extreme positions against each other.”
