The number of victims of the landslide in Ethiopia reached 257 people

One of the UN aid offices announced that the death toll from the landslide in Ethiopia has reached 257 people and it is possible to increase.

According to the United Nations report, the number of victims of the landslide that occurred on Monday in the inaccessible area in southern Ethiopia has reached 257 people and may reach 500 people.

According to the RT report, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a report on Thursday, pointing out that relief operations are still ongoing and residents are digging with their hands or shovels due to the lack of facilities. The victims have reached 257 people by July 24.

This organization added: Based on the information provided by the local authorities, the number of victims is expected to increase to 500 people. New mothers should be evacuated.

The disaster occurred on Monday after heavy rains hit a mountainous region in Ethiopia’s southern province, and the latest death toll reported by local authorities on Tuesday was 229.

Southern Ethiopia is subject to short monsoon rains between April and early May, which increase in intensity in July and August, causing floods and mudslides.
