America stops sanctions against Israeli ministers
The Times of Israel reported Friday after an Israeli official revealed in Washington that the US government is considering possible sanctions against Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Itmar Ben Ghafir, the leader of the Utzma Judaism party and the Minister of Internal Security of Israel, changes.
Reports indicate that the decision was taken after the sanctions against Israeli officials were discussed at a high-level meeting.
On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his strong opposition to the US sanctions campaign during a conversation with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
Netanyahu claimed that Israeli civilians face more frequent attacks and higher death rates from Hamas than Palestinians killed by Israelis.
Earlier, Democratic American Senator Chris Van Hollen called for US sanctions against Betzalel Smotrich, the Minister of Finance of the Zionist regime, for allegedly undermining peace, stability, and security in the West Bank.
A US source told the outlet, however, that Sullivan confirmed the US would continue its sanctions against Israeli extremists.
The US recently imposed new sanctions against Zionist extremists for violence against Palestinians, including financial restrictions on four settlement bases in the West Bank.
